Finish, Finally!

A graduation gift is off today to my fine great-nephew with a big PHEW!

The sun has been shining a lot here, most unusual for the Pacific Northwest in June. (And good for the U.S. Open.)

Here's the back. I like it as much as the front. Maybe it IS the front!

I love how the dark binding holds the quilt together.

Graduation celebrations

My grand-nephew will have his second graduation tomorrow: his AA associate from community college! Way To go, Mr J! This is underway to help him celebrate:

Here's a better photo of the whole thing. It's under my machine getting quilted now.

I realize that half quilted isn't a finish, but by next week, it'll be off in the mail.

I am loving the back! Maybe it will be the front. Mr J can decide. The quilting is the zig zag cerpentine on my sewing machine.

Another day of quilting, then binding. I'll take it with me to the accordion festival next weekend to finish tacking down the binding. My two hobbies co-mingling.

I'll try to link this to Crazy Mom Quilts, Finish it up Friday's

Quick, Quick! Graduation X Two!

My great nephew is graduating twice. He graduates from high school today, and receives his AA from the community college next Saturday. He did the "Running Start" program which combines 2 years of Community college with the last two years of high school. Way to go!

And me without a quilt underway.

So, yesterday, I put this aside in the middle of quilting, and went to work on this:

It's from a book, Beyond Neutral by John Q Adams. It's simple, fast, and will be a good guy quilt. The pattern is called "Pacific Crest." Lots of these four patches of differing sizes. Trimming all those half square triangle units is a bit tedious, but worth it in the end.

Gray background, a little geekiness, a little plaid, I'm doing the small units now.

I made lots of progress yesterday, I'll get batting today and an IKEA backing on Monday. The top will be finished Sunday.

Pillow Present

Miss R's color scheme for her room is grey, blue, white and taupe, and here's what I came up with.

Quilting in a spiral adds so much to a simple patchwork. On the back, I used the Ohio stars that I thought would work for the top, but just weren't right. I was glad to use them in a different way.
It's funny how I change my mind, A LOT! Something that sounds right in my mind fails when it gets to my design wall. Quilting is a challenge, just like the Sunday crossword or "Words With Friends!"
